It's the common (majority) view to see the two Genesis creation stories as separate. Note that Genesis 1 is very clear that man and woman were created on the 6th day (after plants and animals). Genesis 2 is equally clear that man was created before plants (and woman, who was created last), and given a whole series of tasks to do BEFORE woman was even in the picture. Woman is a notable afterthought in Genesis 2, but an equal partner in Genesis 1. In fact, the ONLY people who think that Genesis 1 and 2 are the same story are people who have a prior commitment to biblical literalism.
