Kansas school board
Kansas school board
Letter to the editor - Kansas City Star, July 15, 2006

As a lifelong Johnson County resident (until my recent move to South Dakota), and as a practicing scientist and member of the 2005 Kansas Science Standards Writing Committee, I found that The Star’s Sunday editorial (7/9) endorsing five liberal candidates for the Kansas State Board of Education misrepresented the actions of the current board.

In my view, the current board did Kansas education a great service by demanding that Darwin be taught, but taught honestly.

For too long, the teaching of Darwinian evolution has been laced with radical philosophical overtones that have no place in public education.

Maintaining the current Board of Education will be good for Kansas.
